Racine County Sports Hall of Fame

”My wish is that if someone remembers my name, they associate it with what is good about Racine. This is a humble Midwest city that believes in the possibility of all its inhabitants and will embrace, encourage and inspire individuals to reach beyond their potential.”

Racine Heritage Museum, in recognition of Racine County’s proud competitive sports tradition, is pleased to announce the creation of the Racine County Sports Hall of Fame.

This exciting community project was launched at Wingspread on September 29 with the mission to celebrate and showcase the remarkable achievements of Racine County individuals who have demonstrated athletic excellence, sportsmanship and hometown pride.

Through an annual induction ceremony honoring our sports heroes, and a permanent exhibit within Racine Heritage Museum, we will preserve and share our unique legacy with future generations. These are powerful stories of Racine County athletes and teams and their impact on our community, on the nation and throughout the world.

The exhibit and first induction ceremony are planned for October 2011, and work on the project is already under way. Due in part to a generous grant from the SC Johnson Fund, Inc., support for the exhibit has been secured.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE INAUGURAL "CLASS OF 2011" IS NOW CLOSED.

The Racine County Sports Hall of Fame considers eligible any individual, living or dead, a current or former Racine County resident, who has made a significant contribution or has compiled a record of achievement in sports, either as a player, coach, manager, administrator, owner, educator, promoter or contributor, and by such contribution has benefited sports in Racine County or elsewhere. Individuals should be retired from participation in their area of nomination for a minimum of five years.

Nominations are accepted annually. Nominations received by January 31 will be considered for induction at the annual ceremony the following October. The Racine County Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee determines the final slate of nominees.
